What’s in your child’s vitamins?
In order to be the best parent you can, you want to make sure your children are healthy. One way to do that is by making sure they get the correct amount of vitamins and minerals that they need. Often this means serving our little ones a multivitamin with their breakfast.
Some commercials and clever packaging claim that a children’s vitamins “supports a healthy immune system” or is “pediatricians’ #1 choice”. Don’t buy the hype!
Ingredients in Children’s Vitamins
Many times when your child takes their multivitamin they are ingesting harmful fillers, artificial dyes, sweeteners and preservatives…doing more harm than good.
Here are some of the detrimental additives in the popular children’s vitamins:
1. Hydrogenated Oil – yes, the same hydrogenated oil I have warned you about before which can cause problems to the heart and central nervous system.
2. Aspartame – Dr. Mercola has named aspartame as “the most dangerous substance added to most foods today.” Why? Because it has been connected to over 75% of bad food reactions reported to the FDA. Oh and it’s also been linked to Lymphoma and Leukemia.
3. Artificial Dyes & Colors – have you ever wondered how they get those little Fred Flintstones purple and red? I’ll give you a hint – it’s not from all of the grapes and apples they use to make them. It’s food dye such as red #40, which has been linked to cancer in children, as well as ADHD.
4. Magnesium Stearate – now you may say “Oh, magnesium! That’s good for you.” Nope, it’s actually used as a lubricant so the pills don’t stick together. Studies have shown magnesium stearate creates a biofilm in your child’s body, which will block any nutrients from being absorbed.
So what kinds of vitamins or supplements should you be giving your child? Well, first you want to make sure they’re consuming a well-balanced diet but if you want to make sure they are getting all their nutrients, here are some vitamins that I trust:
And I really love (and so do my kids) the doTERRA A2Z Kid’s Multivitamin. It contains a proprietary formula of ingredients developed with children and adults who have difficulty swallowing capsules in mind. Combining a blend of B vitamins with a blend of vitamins A, C, and E, as well as botanical extracts, doTERRA a2z Chewable supports healthy cell development and longevity when taken daily.
What kind of vitamins – if any – do you give to your kids?
