Here are some tips to rev up your daily exercise routine:

1. Pair up with a friend or join a group. Accountability is key. When your friends or group members are waiting on you or expecting you, there is a much higher likelihood that you will stick with it.

2. Find your WHY. Is there a reason you want to lose weight, live pain free, be a healthy role model, or live a long life? Write down all of the reasons why you want to be in shape and what it would mean to you. Connecting to your reasons and getting clear will improve your commitment.

3. Do something you enjoy. I don’t like to bike ride. Just don’t enjoy it. So I don’t do it that often. If you are happier playing basketball, going to yoga, boxing, dancing or lifting weights, do THOSE things. You don’t have to hit the gym or the treadmill to move your body.

4. Explore. Go to a sporting goods store and invest in something new that feels adventurous or exciting. Get new sneakers, some boxing gloves, a jump rope or some swim goggles. Or pick up Fitness Magazine to get inspired.

5. Set goals. Know what you are working towards. Buy a calendar and mark off the days until your first 5K or half marathon. Make a plan to do something. And tell people about it. That will motivate you to keep going when you are too busy or not in the mood. Set an easy goal to start, one that you know you can achieve. And then start working on a more difficult goal. Don’t set the bar too high initially or you will get frustrated!

6. Make it easy. Lay out your exercise clothes and shoes by the bed the night before. Have you water bottle already filled up or your gym bag packed, so literally all you have to do wake up and get out the door. Set a timer to remind you when your class or workout is. Make it an automatic part of your day.
