What is CBD Oil & How Can it Affect Your Health?

CBD is also known as cannabidiol.  The human body normally produces cannabinoids, and there are numerous receptors all over the body for these cannabinoids to attach too with the highest number of receptors located in the brain.

CBD oils when ingested cause the cannabinoids produced by the body to connect to their receptors, thereby eliciting the effects that have been linked with CBD oil usage.

CBD receptors located in the brain help in pain management, improvement of appetite, coordination and movement, improvement in emotions, memory, and mood, etc. Other CBD receptors located in the immune system helps the body fight against and resist infection and also evoke anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

CBD oil can be used orally, inhaled nasally, used intravenously or even used topically on the skin; all of these routes of administrations have been proven to yield the desired beneficial results.

Uses and Benefits of Cannabinoid Oils

Anti-inflammatory and Analgesic Agent

CBD has become the drug of choice for several people because it has been proven to be useful in the management of chronic pain and it has no side effects such as addiction linked to it. Presently, CBD is being employed in the management of pain in conditions such as fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis.

Reducing Withdrawal Symptoms

Recent findings suggest that CBD is helpful in people who have been struggling with opioids and nicotine addiction. Smokers and opioid users who are battling with addiction have been found to experience little or no craving for nicotine and opiate containing substances upon inhalation of CBD. CBD helps to prevent seizures, insomnia, mood changes, pain and anxiety that are usually experienced during withdrawal.

Treating Epilepsy and Other Neuropsychiatric Disorders

Owing to the groundbreaking discovery on the benefits of CBD in treating epilepsy in 2010 when it reduced Charlotte Figg’s s seizures drastically from a whopping sum of 300 seizures monthly to meager 2-3 seizures monthly. CBD has also shown promising results in the management of psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia.

Antineoplastic Agent

CBD is said to prevent the growth of cancer cells and to prevent them from metastasizing or spread to other tissues.

Preventing Cancer

Several studies show that CBD has the ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. The oil has also been found to induce cell death in breast cancer, as well as treat lung cancer, colon cancer, and leukemia (source).  And there are ongoing studies researching the effectiveness of CBD on brain tumors.

Management of Anxiety Disorders

Studies have shown CBD to be effective in reducing anxiety in disorders such as panic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorders.

Acne Control and Prevention

Acne is usually provoked by the inflammation of the sebaceous glands in the skin. CBD reduces the production of sebum by the sebaceous glands by preventing inflammation of the sebaceous glands.

Treating Alzheimer’s Disease

CBD has been found to have significant potentials when it comes to prophylaxis or prevention of the manifestation of memory loss in Alzheimer’s disease. CBD, when started in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, prevents the development of recognition deficits and allows people who have Alzheimer’s to retain their ability to recognize friends and family.
